Domiciliary Youth Work

Starting from spring 2017, House for Girls in Varissuo has begun developing domiciliary youth work, i.e. youth work provided in the young person’s home. This project offers services for 10-16-year-old girls in Varissuo and nearby regions, who spend the majority of their free-time at home. The aim is to build an open and trustworthy relationship with the girl and her family. The first meeting takes place at the girl’s family’s home, during which the girl’s social network and personal wishes are mapped out. The following meetings comprise of similar activities offered at Varissuo’s House for Girls, such as help with homework, baking, handicrafts, etc. The purpose of domiciliary youth work is to expand the girl’s environment by finding interesting free-time activities and hobbies for her to get involved in. Importance is placed on encouraging the girl to do things independently and to participate in different activities, both of which holistically support her wellbeing and developing identity. Domiciliary youth work also works as a low-threshold service for joining Varissuo’s House for Girls.
